Course Description

This course will provide you with an introduction to the principles and nature of research methods in education.

Course Objectives:


This introductory course will give the students the opportunity to be familiar with the principles of conducting research and gain an overview of research methods, tools and procedures. It also encourages the students to develop the practical skills of doing a qualitative research in TESOL and inspires their inquisitive minds to produce knowledge in their fields of inquiry .


Course Requirements:

1. Active Class Participation and Preparation:

Each student must be well-prepared every session. There may be some unexpected questions or quizzes.

1. Mid-term Exam
2. Final Exam
3. Term Project

Students are required to submit a research paper on the topics of their interest. The topics should be approved not later than the mid-term.

Course Assessment:

1. Class participation and discussions 20%
2. Mid-term exam 20%
3. Final exam 45%
4. Term project 15%
